Clinical Somatics

Muscle Retraining for Pain-Free Living

** Learn how to relieve your pain and tension with Clinical Somatics. **

Clinical Somatics is a practical approach to relieving muscle pain. Your body is designed to move easily. Pain and tension such as low back pain or neck and shoulder tension develop as a result of injuries, accidents, repetitive motions, emotional stress or whatever else has happened in your life.

Clinical Somatic Education consists of three parts:

  1. Somatic exercises - The self care exercises are gentle but powerful and focus on relaxing the muscles that are holding unnecessary tension. I'll teach you the movement exercises that target your particular issue(s) to reduce your pain and tension levels, and improve your balance and coordination.

  2. Body awareness education - awareness is the first step in changing the way muscles behave. You need to change the way your muscles are behaving in order to feel better. You'll learn to recognize your habits in regards to how you hold yourself and move your body (your postural and movement habits).

  3. Hands-on clinical lessons - an active form of bodywork in which you move and participate as hands-on clinical techniques are integrated into the movement exercises to encourage and accelerate the release of the muscles.

“The body will become better at whatever you do, or don’t do. You don’t move? The body will make you better at NOT moving. If you move, your body will allow more movement.”

My pain levels are so much closer to zero - and that is a remarkable gift. Thanks for your support on my journey to health restored. Lorraine W.

Just letting you know I do the exercises every day and my chiropractor and masseuse have seen a huge difference in my muscle tone. My back adjusts way easier. Stacy B.

I recently started taking classes with Brenda and at first I thought the exercises she taught were a little unusual…certainly unlike anything I had ever done before. But I stuck with it and am I ever grateful. With daily practice, as she suggests, the difference is amazing. I also went to see her for a few one-on-one sessions and that just took it to another level entirely as she was able to focus on my particular issues and she helped me understand my patterns better. I’m hooked on Somatics. Lisa B.
